Phase II Environmental Site Assessment

 

Overview

The site is a former 80-acre sand mine, identified as the J-Pit, owned by the City of Gary, and operated by Beemsterboer Slag Corporation as a clean fill site. 

 

Scope

• Conducted a Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA)

• Subsurface investigation activities to evaluate the fill included the advancement of six soil borings across the property 

• Used an ATV drill rig to depths of 30 to 34 feet below surface grade

• Evaluated the types of subsurface fill materials through soil and groundwater sampling

• Used temporary monitoring wells and analytical testing to confirm or deny the presence of contamination
