8-Inch Sanitary Sewer Pipe Bursting​

Overview

Project replaced existing rear-yard 8-inch sanitary sewer, located between Washington Court and Madison Street, that was at the end of its useful life. The sanitary sewer has had multiple collapses over the past several years and required full replacement.

Scope​​

• Designed the removal and replacement of the 8-inch sanitary sewer 

• Utilized a trenchless technology method of pipe bursting

• Coordinated with each affected homeowner, a requirement due to utility easement being congested with garages, fences, sheds, and vegetation

• 8” pipe replacement, pipe bursting  

• New manholes/ frame & cover  

• Reinstate existing rear yard sanitary service 

• Lawn restoration  

• Asphalt restoration  

• R&R curb and gutter  

• Fence removal & restoration 

• Tree removal

Results​​

• Restored the useful life of the sanitary sewer for another 75 years

• Saved garages, sheds, fences, gardens and vegetation from major disturbance

• Minimized the disruption to residents vs. an open cut method

• Saved the Sanitary District cost over open cut sewer replacement 

• Reduced threat of a sanitary sewer collapse
