Flow Monitoring in South Holland, IL

Overview

We identified dry weather and wet weather flow conditions. We ranked the relative severity of observed rainfall dependent infiltration and inflow (RDII). 31 temporary flow monitors were installed, and 5 temporary rain gauges were installed​

• Can determine hot spot sewer basins that contribute the most I&I into the sanitary sewer system

• Make a roadmap for the Village to follow the next Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Survey (SSES) steps to narrow down I&I

• Smoke testing

• Closed-Circuit Televising (CCTV) 

• View where surcharging frequents, and establish operation capacity

• Determine if sewer basins are self-cleansing, and locate which areas need to be put on a maintenance jetting list
