DuPage Water Commission - Lake Michigan Pipeline to Waterlink

This project consists of a $300 million, 31-mile Lake Michigan pipeline extension (20” – 54” diameter) from the DWC system in Naperville to Waterlink communities of Oswego, Montgomery, and Yorkville. The team partnered with LAN and SCI as part of a 3-firm team that completed Phase I engineering within 8 months and is currently completing Phase II and 120+ easements. The project involved continual design changes for rapid new developments construction, schedule delays and design changes related to ComEd corridors, major utility coordination, traffic control/MOT at various locations, pipeline crossings at the Fox River, Morgan Creek, and three railroads, as well as massive data file management.

Creative routing was coordinated with multiple entities to route the pipeline through school districts, new developments, and roadway construction, along with approvals from over a dozen agencies such as the Kendall County Highway Department. Phase I was completed in 2023, Phase II is ongoing from 2024–2025, with construction anticipated from 2025–2027 and the system operational in spring 2028. Key team members included Aaron Fundich, John Hilsen, Randell Gann, and Brad Lueders.
