Itaca - Roadway & Stormwater Improvements Phase I and II

There was extreme flooding at the intersections of Maple, Center, and Walnut, and North and Elm, which caused stormwater inside resident’s homes and significant yard flooding. Contributing factors included a lack of overland flow routes, an undersized stormwater conveyance system, and restrictive outlets to Spring Brook Creek.

The project scope included construction of new storm sewer main lines (18”-48”) in the right-of-way with inlets and check valves at critical locations, reconstruction and reprofiling of roadways from rural to an urban section (curb and gutter) with water main replacement, and regrading of parkways to provide positive drainage towards roadways. Additional efforts included navigating utility requirements, coordinating public outreach initiatives, and maintaining access to residents and businesses during construction. These improvements resulted in urbanized rural roadways, increased stormwater collection & conveyance, reduced street flooding, development of main trunk line storm sewers for future roadway urbanization, and planning of trunk lines for future projects.
