Arlington Heights - 1MG Elevated Storage Tank Rehabilitation (Thomas Tank)

We provided professional engineering services for the repair and repainting of the 1.0-million-gallon radial arm elevated water storage tank. We did the evaluation, design engineering, bidding assistance, construction engineering, and construction observation services. The project specified full exterior containment for abrasive blast material containment and lead based paint abatement and included an active cathodic protection system to minimize future corrosion in the interior-wet portion of the tank, as well as a submersible tank mixer to eliminate stratification, improve water quality, and minimize the potential for icing.

We also assisted the Village with public outreach efforts due to the tank’s close proximity to residential homes and the lead-based paint removal. The result prolonged the storage tank’s useful life by conducting preventative corrosion maintenance, eliminated a potential lead-based paint exposure pathway from the Village’s public water system, and minimized residents’ concerns and questions by implementing a proactive public outreach campaign.
