Will County - 143rd Street Surveying

 

The 143rd Street survey included setting control points with GPS and traditional methods, mapping 3.5 miles of roadway, and surveying eight square miles of land. It also involved reviewing 160 property records and creating maps and legal descriptions for land needed by Will County and IDOT.

The project scope included establishment of horizontal and vertical controls for the entire route utilizing GPS/GNSS technology along with conventional terrestrial methods, topography of approximately 3.5 linear miles of roadway, adjacent areas, and all intersecting streets, and boundary surveying of 8 United States Public Land Survey System (USPLSS) sections. Additional efforts included review of title commitments for approximately 160 parcels, including interpretation of legal descriptions, placement of parcel lines and existing easement lines, and preparation of plats of highway for the entire route comprised of total holdings, fee simple acquisitions, and temporary acquisitions in accordance with Will County Department of Transportation and Illinois Department of Transportation standards, along with preparation of legal descriptions for fee simple and temporary acquisitions in accordance with those same standards.
