Tinley Park 183rd Street Extension
Robinson Engineering, Ltd. (REL) in conjunction with the Village of Tinley Park and Cook County Highway Department completed the two-mile reconstruction and extension of 183rd Street from US Route 45 (LaGrange Road) to 80th Avenue. This project includes a new Metra roadway at grade crossing, which allows 183rd Street to extend over 14 miles in the Chicago Southland region. The project provides the Village with a much-needed east-west corridor that extends to the limits of Tinley Park. Prior to this project the existing roadway west of the Metra tracks provided two 10-foot traffic lanes.
The completed construction provides two eastbound and two westbound lanes of full-depth concrete pavement with a landscaped median and dedicated left turn lanes at each intersection. Improvements include an enclosed drainage system, fence along the residential section of 183rd Street, extensive landscaping, street lighting, sidewalk and a pedestrian railroad crossing. This project was a successful collaboration between the Village, Cook County, Illinois Department of Transportation, Metra, and the residential and commercial stakeholders.
