Romeoville Intersection Improvements

IL Route 53 and Lewis University

Overview

The Village of Romeoville took the lead on a major intersection upgrade at Illinois Route 53 (IDOT jurisdiction) and the main entrance into Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. The project was designed and constructed in conjunction with Lewis University and the Village of Romeoville. 

Scope
  • Provided Phase I & II design services for the widening IL 53 at University Parkway to accommodate a northbound protected left turn lane, a southbound exclusive right turn lane, and thru-traffic lane widening from 10’ to 12’

  • Design also included new traffic signals, storm sewer improvements, and complete pavement resurfacing were also included in this project

  • Completed funding-related process & paperwork

  • Performed surveying and topographic services

  • Staked/inspected roadway, signals, and storm sewers

  • Provided Phase III construction observation, inspection, engineering

  • Acted as the contractor coordination liaison

Results
  • Secured Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) funding for 80% of the engineering design and construction cost
